Silken Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao

SILKEN GRAN HOTEL DOMINE BILBAO

The Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao, facing the Guggenheim Museum, is the Silken Hotels’ first five-star and the chain’s pride. The GHBD expresses a contemporary concept that avoids ostentation and promotes fun. The project is infected by its neighbour, the Guggenheim’s, activity and offers a space that contains a selection of furniture that represents the most emblematic design from the 20th century. Its singularity consists in the application of a concept of integral design, of great, formal coherence, carried out by Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas with their respective teams. GHBD isn’t only a hotel to stay at, but a colourist microcosmos that opens its door to whoever wishes to get close to it and have a coffee, a drink or eat in its restaurant.

The luxurious hotel facilities include wireless Internet access across the entire property, reading lounge with library, cocktail lounge bar, an all-day brasserie menu at the Le cafe Metropole, and fine dining at the onsite Doma restaurant, which boasts a terrace with views over Bilbao. A fitness centre with Turkish bath, sauna, massage service, and body and beauty treatments can also be enjoyed onsite. Silken Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao features also a fully-equipped business centre, a meeting room for social and corporate events with a capacity to host up to 500 people, and a banqueting service. Free valet parking is included. The hotel welcomes pets (restrictions apply), and offers accessibility features such as Braille signage.

THE ATRIUM

The atrium flooded with interior light is one of the elements that singularises the GHBD. On entering the visitor encounters a sculptural piece by Mariscal, the Fossil Cypress, that occupies the entire verticality of the building, from the floor to the skylight that crowns the terrace. The sculpture is 26 metres in height, two and a half in diameter and 90 tonnes in weight. A piece that recreates an interior journey that compensates for the absence of views from the interior rooms.

THE RESTAURANT DOMA

For the essential that expresses DOMA’s minimalist scenography is transmitted to the food, where the prime material is the character. Martin Berasategui, the only spanish chef with seven Michelin stars, has wanted to print his signature to this restaurant where you can taste what is paramount for Berasategui, the quality of the products offered by the market.

DOMA’s menu reflects hisdayly walk through the market and the “alembic” of a “cuisine” genius. A seven star chef for a five star hotel, from where the sky of Bilbao can be seen.

LE CAFÉ METROPOL / THE CAFETERIA

Its interiorism is a homage to Bauhaus and the designers who stood out in the 20’s of the 20th Century. This is why it’s expressed in black and white and uses stainless steel, a material that reflects the trust in new technology that moved them. The crystallised closing turns into an open view of the urban street with the Guggenheim in full view. The neighbourhood of the museum reassures an atmosphere and a cosmopolitan audience. Opening hours: Mon to Thurs and Sun 8h-24h; Fri and Sat 8h-1h

SPLASH & CRASH / THE COCKTAIL LOUNGE

Red and white characterises its interior. The colours evoke the passion and purity that were necessary to believe in the ideals that were forged in the 70’s, the epoch that inspired its decoration. This is a place thought out so one can express themselves openly over a good drink, listening to good music and enjoying a good late night atmosphere. Opening hours: Mon to Thurs 18h-1h; Fri and Sat 18h-3h and Sun 18h-24h

THE SHOP

Situated in the lobby, GHDB’s shop offers a selection of objects not to be looked upon as souvenirs, but desirable for their good design and because they have something to transmit to their buyers. Here it’s possible to find an exclusive gift for those that want to take away something to remember and with a bit of surprise to them.

THE LOUNGES

A large, versatile space, that can house up to 500 or 20 people thanks to it being a diaphanous structure establishing small, intimate spaces by means of a sophisticated system of partitions. A multipurpose space for family celebrations, full of warmth, comfort and good taste and also for company meetings, conventions or product presentations, which is already equipped with the most sophisticated technology. The touch of colour, in an attractive range of reds, is added by the carpets designed by Mariscal.

TXOKO TRANQUILO CORNER

This is the space which best pays homage to the design of the 20th Century. A place that, far from looking like an exposition of objects of design, manages to establish a relaxing dialogue, filled with warmth, so that you can read or converse upon the grass calmly. A chimney lit up in winter warms the atmosphere and makes it even more welcoming. In the Txoko Tranquilo Corner a library has been created with titles related to design, architecture and interiorism.

BUSINESS CENTRE

A small office at the client’s disposal that acts as a private zone, the Txoko Tranquilo Corner, through its glass front and which serves for transition towards the Altas Reuniones space. A place conceived to cover the guest’s needs on business trips and for those that need a computer to connect to the Internet, to look at or send e-mail. It will also be equipped with a printer, photocopier and fax machine.

THE GYM

A small, glassed-in area where the traveler can keep in shape and the executive keep his stress at bay.

BUENAS VISTAS TERRACE / THE LOOKOUT TERRACE

A large terrace paved with teakwood from where unusual views of the Guggenheim and the Ría can be taken in, and a covered zone by a copper-latticed canopy that shelters those wishing to shelter high up, allowing the appreciation of the geography of a place where modernisation doesn’t prevent the natural countryside from strongly coming forth from where the urban landscape is interrupted. From the Buenas Vistas Terrace, in the heights and the fresh air, the world is perceived from a serene distance.
